Taylor Swifts revisits the “Famous” Feud, brands Kim and Kanye as “Trash”

American singer and song writer Taylor Swift was named Time Magazine’s person of the year and in the interview with the publication, the singer revisited her feud with Kanye West and his ex-wife Kim Kardashian which stemmed from Kanye West’s song ‘Famous’ which was released in 2016 years after the rapper interrupted Taylor Swift in her 2009 MTV Video music awards acceptance speech as the best female video in 2009 for her song “You belong with me.”

Swift, 33 slammed Kim Kardashian in her interview with the outlet for taking her “down psychologically” and forcing her into hiding during their long running feud. She also branded the reality star and her ex-husband Kanye West “trash.” Discussing the aftermath and the brutal toll the incident took on her wellbeing, the “cruel summer” hit maker said, “you have fully manufactured frame job, in an illegally recorded phone call, which Kim Kardashian edited and then put out to say to everyone that I was a liar.” She continued saying how she had to leave the country and was afraid of taking any more phone calls. “That took me down psychologically to a place I have never been before. I moved to a foreign country. I did not leave a rental house for a year. I was afraid to get on phone calls.” “I pushed away most people in my life because I did n0ot trust anyone anymore. I went down really, really hard.”

Well, if you need a refresher of how the feud started and escalated, it all started in September 2009 when the then 19 year old Taylor Swift won the award for the best female video at the MTV Video music awards for “You belong with me.” Giving her acceptance speech, Kanye West out of nowhere took over the stage and grabbed the mic. “Imma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time.” The rapper said as the singer was left stunned on stage. Afterwards she told reporters, “I was really excited, because I had just won the award, and then I was really excited because Kanye West was on stage, and then I was not excited anymore after that.”

Two days later, Taylor Swift claimed Kanye West to have apologized to her for stealing her moment while in an interview with AB Radio. “Kanye did call me and he was very sincere in his apology, and I accepted that apology.” She said. A year after the incident, the singer took to the same stage to perform her song ”Innocent” off her “Speak now” album, which was believed to be directed to Kanye West. “It is OK, and life is a tough crowd, 32 and still growing up now, who you are is not what you did, you are still an innocent.” The lyrics read. Three years later, Kanye West seemed to take back his apology to Tylor Swift in an interview with the New York time. “If anyone is reading this waiting for some type of full-on, flat apology or anything, they should stop reading right now.”

Six years after the incident, in August 2015 Taylor while speaking to Vanity Fair tacking about where her relationship with Kanye West stands, she said, “I feel like I was not ready to be friends with him until I felt like he had some sort of respect for me, and he was not ready to be friends with me until he had some sort of respect for me, so it was the same issue, and we both reached the same place at the same time.” In the same year, the two musicians found themselves at the VMAs stage yet again, this time Taylor Swift presenting an award to Kanye West. Using the same words the rapper used to her, she went, “To all the other winners tonight, I am really happy for you, Imma let you finish, but Kanye West has had one of the greatest careers of all time.”

While things seemed all cool between the two, things took a very sharp and harsh turn. The following year in 2016, Kanye West released a song that was dubbed “Famous” off his “The life of Pablo” album. This song came as a diss direct to Taylor Swift where Kanye West even called her a “B—“ “I feel like me and Taylor might still have s*x, why? I made that B— FAMOUS.” The lyrics read. Accepting the Grammy Awards in February 2016, Taylor Swift seemingly addressed Kanye West taking credit of making her famous. “To all the young women out there, there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame.” She said. Kim Kardashian entered the picture when in the summer of 2016 she told GQ magazine that Taylor Swift approved the controversial lyrics in her then husband’s song ‘Famous.” She said, “She totally knew that was coming out. She wanted to all of a sudden act like she did not. I swear, my husband gets so much s—t for things when he really was doing proper protocol and even called to get it approved.” In response, Taylor Swift’s spokesperson issued a lengthy statement to GQ, basically stating that Taylor Swift did not approve to be referenced to as “That B—tch” in the song, but said that the two did indeed have a conversation on the phone. The statement also said that Taylor did not approve the song to be released because Kanye did not let her listen to it before releasing it. She heard it when everyone else did.

In July of 2016, Kim Kardashian leaked a video footage of Kanye West’s phone call with Swift. In an effort to defend her then husband, she uploaded to her snapchat a video that she claimed was taken before the release of the song. The video Kim Kardashian released, sure showed that Taylor Swift approved the lyrics of Famous. This video quickly went viral on social media, with many people siding with Kim Kardashian and saying that she exposed Taylor Swift and many started using the snake emoji referring to Taylor as a snake. Kim Kardashian also took to her tweeter to call Taylor a snake where she wrote, “It is legit National snake day. They have holidays for everybody, I mean everything these days.” With several snake emoji.

In 2017, Taylor Swift announced a new album “Reputation” that seemed to hint at Kanye West feud. After Kim Kardashian leaked the phone call video, Taylor went off the grid and avoided public eye for about a year. In August 2017, she deleted all her content on her social media platforms and announced a new album called “Reputation” which evoked a dark imagery and a dramatic use of snakes which fans took to mean as her reclaiming accusations of being a “Snake” when Kim leaked that phone call. “This is why we can’t have nice things” is a song off “Reputation” album where Swift seemed to address Kanye and the leaked phone call. “There I was giving you a second chance, if only you were not so shady, but you stabbed me in the back while shaking my head, and therein lies the issue, friends do not try to trick you, get you on the phone and mind-twist you.” She sang.

In 2020, a full 25 minute long version of the phone call that happened between Kanye West and Taylor Swift leaked online and in it, West shared a planned lyric along the lines of “I made her famous.” But neglects the ‘B—-“which ended up in the final song. In fact, in the unedited version, Swift appears to be happy that West did not use such language. “I thought it was going to be like, ‘That stupid, dumb B—, but it is not.” She was heard saying. She does tell him that she is glad that the reference is not “Mean” but would like to mull on it before she gives her approval.

Back to this moment, after Taylor’s interview upon being named the Person of the year, her fans flooded Kim Kardashian’s Instagram comments with Snake emoji’s asking her to apologize to Taylor Swift. “Apologize to Tay.” One fan commented.
