In a shocking revelation, junior staff at Uganda’s Parliament have been implicated in the extravagant spending spree of Speaker Anita Among, using Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds. The staggering amount of Ugx 17,733,865,000 has been reportedly withdrawn by eight staff members, raising eyebrows and sparking outrage among citizens.
According to the damning report, the bulk of the funds were disbursed in a span of just four months, with a minimum amount of Ugx 400,000,000 being withdrawn in at least fifteen transactions. These transactions, purportedly for CSR initiatives, paint a picture of unchecked extravagance and misuse of public funds.
One of the staff members, Kaaya Rajab, stands accused of withdrawing a jaw-dropping total of Ugx 805,000,000 in April alone, supposedly as an advance for the Speaker’s CSR activities for the next fiscal year. Similarly, Okema Leonard’s transactions, totaling over Ugx 4,125,000,000, raise serious questions about the accountability and oversight mechanisms within Parliament.
Further scrutiny reveals shocking details of Okwii’s withdrawal of Ugx 460,000,000 for the evaluation of the impact of the Speaker’s CSR, and Adilo’s withdrawal of a staggering Ugx 750,000,000 for a women’s empowerment workshop in Bukedea. These revelations have left many stunned and outraged at the apparent misuse of funds meant for community development initiatives.
The lack of transparency surrounding the Speaker’s CSR activities is particularly alarming, with little to no mention of these expenditures until now. As the investigation unfolds, concerned citizens demand answers and accountability from Speaker Among and her office.
The team at @AgoraCFR has pledged to delve deeper into these allegations to determine the veracity of the CSR activities and whether they align with their intended objectives. In the meantime, the public remains vigilant, calling for swift action to address the apparent misuse of public funds.
#UgandaParliamentExhibition has become a rallying cry for accountability and transparency in the face of rampant extravagance and fiscal irresponsibility. As citizens demand answers, the spotlight shines ever brighter on Speaker Among and her alleged misuse of CSR funds.
