The 66th glamorous and historic music awards event took place on 5th February 2024 at the crypto.com Arena in Loa Angeles and we could not help but notice the drama that went down between the attendees. Here is what to remember from this iconic night which was hosted by South African comedian and TV host Trevor Noah.

Miley Cyrus forgot to wear pants to get her first Grammy

Ooops! First, if you didn’t know, having been making excellent pop since she was a preteen, Cyrus finally snagged her first Grammy award, for record of the year, for her single ‘Flowers.’ Second, she forgot to wear pants.

Basically, she rocked it commando. How do we know this? No, there was no wardrobe malfunction or anything of that sort to have us know, she herself while giving her speech, she said, I don’t think I forgot anyone, but I might have forgotten underwear.”

While receiving his 2nd annual Dr. Dre Global impact award – in recognition of his musical legacy, the 54-year-old hip-hop artist questioned the Grammys about their behind the scenes process of organizing the voted categories. “She has won more Grammys than everyone and never won album of the year. So even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work.”

He added, “We want y’all to get it right. At least getting close to right. And obviously it is subjective. Y’all don’t gotta clap at everything. Obviously it is subjective because, you know, it is opinion-based.”

While he didn’t really address Beyoncé by name, – only mentioned ‘’ young lady,’’ it was pretty clear that he was referencing to his wife who has been nominated for album, of the year four times but never won even once. The ‘brown skin girl’ singer was up for the best new artist in 2010 losing to Taylor Swift, 2015-losing to Beck, 2017-losing to Adele and recently 2023 where she lost to Harry styles.

By then in 2023 when Beyoncé lost to Harry Styles, Jay-Z said, “The truth is, we grew up wanting to be on the Grammys, and it was our goal. We just want them to get it right that is what we want.” At the time, Beyoncé was nominated for Renaissance album.

Jay-Z while still defending his wife and mother of his children continued, “You know, some of you are going to go home tonight and fell like you have been robbed. Some of you may get robbed. Some of you do not belong in a category. No, when I get nervous I tell the truth.”

Celine Dion and Taylor Swift awkward encounter

While the show was concluding, Musical Icon Celine Dion who has mostly stayed out of the spotlight since 2022 when she announced that she was diagnosed by a rare neurological disorder called Stiff-person syndrome, made a rare appearance to the Grammys to present the award for the best album of the year to Taylor Swift, but fans think that Taylor Swift snubbed Celine Dion.

As Dion walked to the stage to present the final award of the night, audience members applauded her by giving her a standing ovation. The camera also cut to Swift, who was out of her seat clapping and singing along to “The power of love.”

“When I say I am happy here, I really mean it from my hear>” Celine Dion said, before adding, “Those who have been blessed enough to be here at the Grammy Awards must never take for granted the tremendous love and joy that music brings to our lives and people all around the world.”

Now, what raised eyebrows among the fans, was the fact that Taylor Swift while accepting an award from Celine Dion for the album of the year for her “Midnights’ which marks her fourth win in the category, she did not give Celine Dion enough attention or recognition.

As Swift got to the stage to accept the award, she hugged the producer Jack Antonoff, her friend and fellow Grammy nominee Lana Del Rey and the sound engineer Laura Sisk, but when she finally grabbed the trophy from Dion, Swift’s head was turned toward her collaborators in surprise over the win.

She said, “I would love to tell you that this is the best moment in life. But I feel this happy when I finish a song or when I cracked the code to a bridge that I love or when I am shortlisting a music video.” She said, adding “Or when I am rehearsing with my dancers or my band or getting ready to Tokyo to play a show.”

While she was probably distracted by the win and forgot to acknowledge Dion’s presence, fans did not take that kindly and ended up slamming her on social media.

“Taylor Swift receives an award from the GOAT Celine Dion and she doesn’t even make an eye contact with her. Disrespectful.” One user wrote, while another added, “Taylor not even acknowledging Celine Dion is not sitting right with my spirit. Girl, that is CELINE DION.”

Despite what fans thought of the event speculating that the “Cruel summer” singer snubbed Celine Dion, the two were seen all smiles behind the scenes, indicating that there is clearly no bad blood between them.
