Gen. Elwelu Sacked as Deputy CDF, Appointed Presidential Advisor: Standby Class One Tested Loyalty

In a significant shake-up within Uganda’s military ranks, General Elwelu has been relieved of his duties as Deputy Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and appointed as a Presidential Advisor. The sudden change comes amidst speculation surrounding the loyalty of military officials to President Museveni’s son, General Kainerugaba, and the testing of military structure’s allegiance.

The decision to remove Gen. Elwelu from his position as Deputy CDF and transition him to a role as a Presidential Advisor marks a notable shift in the leadership dynamics within Uganda’s armed forces. While the specifics of the decision remain unclear, sources indicate that the move may be linked to concerns over loyalty and adherence to command structures.

The recent events have brought to light the testing of military loyalty through the implementation of standby class one, the highest level of military readiness. President Museveni’s purported testing of the military structure’s allegiance to his son, Gen. Kainerugaba, has raised eyebrows and led to internal discord within the ranks.

It is reported that Gen. Elwelu issued a top order in the army, which was met with protest from Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, adding fuel to the fire of speculation surrounding loyalty and obedience within the military hierarchy. The fallout from this incident may have contributed to Gen. Elwelu’s reassignment to a new role within the presidential advisory team.

As Uganda navigates these turbulent waters, questions linger about the implications of these developments for the stability and cohesion of the armed forces. The shifting power dynamics and the testing of military loyalty underscore the complex and often opaque nature of political and military relationships within the country.

In the aftermath of Gen. Elwelu’s reassignment, attention now turns to the broader implications for Uganda’s security apparatus and the future direction of the military under the leadership of President Museveni and his son, Gen. Kainerugaba.
